Charging from your own solar is the cheapest electricity you will ever put into a car — you are using power you have already generated instead of buying it back, or paying public fast-charger rates.
Public fast charging is worth every cent on a road trip. For the daily routine, home is where the value is.
How fast will it actually charge?
It comes down to what you plug into. These are the three options most Northern NSW homes are choosing between.
A normal power point
Around 2 kW, adding roughly 10 km of range an hour. Fine as a backup, but a full charge can take more than a day.
Single-phase wall charger
Around 7 kW, roughly 40 km of range an hour. Enough to refill a normal day's driving several times over, overnight.
Three-phase wall charger
Up to 22 kW where your property has three-phase power — around 125 km of range an hour.
Charging speeds are indicative and depend on your vehicle, your charger and your property's supply. We check what your switchboard and supply can actually take before recommending anything.
Let the car take the surplus
A smart charger watches what your solar is doing and speeds up or slows down to match. When the roof is producing more than the house is using, the car quietly soaks up the surplus instead of it going to the grid.
On a good day that means charging on power you have already paid for. On a dull one, it can wait for your cheapest tariff window instead.

What your place needs
A look at your switchboard
A hard-wired charger runs on its own circuit with its own protection. Some older boards need an upgrade first — we'll tell you before you commit.
Installed by a licensed electrician
Hard-wired chargers are electrical work. Ours are installed by our own accredited team, to standard.
Network approval where needed
Larger chargers need sign-off from your network before they're connected. We handle that paperwork, like we do for solar.
The right spot for the cable
Where the car parks, which side the socket is on, and whether you want the cable attached or your own — small decisions that matter daily.
Now is a good time to go solar
Solar is an eligible upgrade under the NSW Government Home Energy Saver program. Eligible homeowners can borrow up to $15,000 at 0% interest, with no fees and up to 10 years to repay.
Your eligible rebates are applied first, then the loan can help cover the remaining cost up to your approved amount. You can use it for solar, or combine solar and battery storage under the same loan.

Is solar still worth it if feed-in tariffs are low?
The real value of solar is in using the electricity you generate yourself. The more solar power you use at home, the less electricity you need to buy from the grid. Adding a battery can help you use even more of your own solar after the sun goes down.
Can I add a battery later?
Yes. If you're not ready for a battery now, we can design your solar system so battery storage can be added later.
